In Loving Memory of Mac...

With every dog is a husband and I had been dating for a year and he really wanted to get a full breed Rott. I was hesitant because I did not want him to eat our first born child (when we had one) or any guests that came to visit. I had never had my very own dog, I had been raised with dogs that my mother had always made sure I helped with but as most of us know, when they become our full responsiblibty as an adult, a diferent attachment occurs. So, we go look at puppies, pick out a German Rott and have to name him something with a Sir because of his papers and so the story begins, Sir Big Mac Daddy!! He was a wonderful dog. Playful, cuddly, a very large lap dog, obediant (most of the time), just awesome! A year after we had him, he seemed lonely and required so much attention and we were both working so we got a Rott mix puppy for entertainment. Mac was so good with him. Mac was 4 times the size of Nico but so gentle. Mac would lay on his back and let Nico chew his neck. Years pass, babies come, 2 of them. Mac and Nico are so good with the kids. I am pregnant with our 3rd, our son is now four years old. Mac starts getting sick. We take him to the vet and receive the dreaded call with lab results, it's cancer. No options available except wait...I sleep on the floor a few nights with Mac and he gets worse. My husband says it is time. We take him to the vet and they were so kind. We put Mac on the table and I just looked into his eyes and praised him for being the best compainion a family could ever have. I have pictures throughout our home so my kids will never forget. It was one of the hardest days of my life yet I would not change a thing! It has been four years and I still sit at the computer today, hysterical at the memory of our beloved Sir Big Mac Daddy. Thank you God for blessing my family with Mac!!

Sir Mac was lucky to have you for a mommy! Thank you for sharing your story.

I am so sorry for your loss, my lab Simi passed on his birthday in February and it was absolutely the worst day of my life, he was 11.

I lost Maya 3 years ago...She too was a rottie...I had the blessing of her friendship and love for 12 years. I got her while in college and she traveled the world with me...we moved to California and back and made a few stops in between...she and I were always home when we were together...I started looking at this web site, because like you, my fiance is really eager to get a dog. I still think about Maya everyday and I wasn't certain that I am ready yet...I told myseld I would look at the momorials and if there was one about a rottie I would take the steps to get a story about Mac was the first one on the page. Thank you for your story...I too am hysterical...I wonder if that pain ever goes away...I still miss her everyday.

Hi Irene! When you seal your wood canvas with Gesso you have to allow it to dry coepletmly. I usually do multiple ones that way they are ready to go when I'm ready to paint on them.I usually do at least 2 layers of Gesso on all sides including the back (3 layers is ideal) for longevity.Once the Gesso is dry, then you can sketch on on it.I sketch on Vellum or Tracing paper first so all the erasing and corrections are done on that and not on the wood. Once I'm happy with the drawing then I transfer it using another piece of Velum that I have rubbed coepletmly with a 4B pencil, you can purchase transfer paper, but I just make it my self.By transferring the drawing, you keep the Gesso clean and then begin to paint. If you do not want to deal with transferring, you can always add a layer of clear coat to the pencil sketch that is on the wood, let it dry and then start painting. The lead will be sealed and will not mix with your colors.I hope that helps. You've given me a nice idea for a blog post and I'll be explaining it using pictures.Take careMaggie tuqvia [link=]crtpveo[/link]

Hi, i've just started to learn how to paint on wood.I apilped gesso on a plywood but when i start sketching on it, the pencil's lead scratched the gesso and took off some of it.It's the same when i tried to erase some sketches with the eraser, the pencil line will still be there.Instead, it's the gesso being taken off.I waited for the gesso to dry before i sketch on it.How do i do it correctly?
